Job Overview
Rand Water is inviting applications from unemployed and previously disadvantaged individuals to join its Supply Chain Practitioner Learnership Programme. This 18-month learnership aims to equip learners with the essential knowledge, practical skills, and workplace experience needed to operate as a Procurement Officer.
Successful candidates will gain expertise in procurement coordination, supplier management, contract negotiation, and the implementation of procurement schedules.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be unemployed and not registered for any qualification or learnership.
- Must not hold a completed post-matric qualification. (Applicants with undisclosed post-matric qualifications will be disqualified.)
- Must have a Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics Literacy and English at Level 4 or higher.
- Must provide a SAQA/NLRD verification report (obtainable from the SAQA website).
- Must be a South African citizen with a valid SA ID.
- Must be 18–35 years old (as per NSDS III).
For People with Disabilities (PWDs):
- Applicants who are deaf or hard of hearing must arrange for their own interpreters at their own cost.
- Must provide proof of disability (Doctor’s certificate/report or signed ITRDD13 form).

Primary Duties
- Develop and implement operational procurement schedules.
- Manage supplier relationships and contractual agreements.
- Monitor and evaluate procurement and supply performance.
Learnership Responsibilities
- Attend all scheduled classes and training sessions.
- Actively participate in discussions and group activities.
- Complete assignments, projects, and assessments.
- Maintain a practical logbook to record learning progress.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
Knowledge: Understanding of Rand Water’s mandate and its contribution to the water sector.
Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Attitude: Self-motivated, results-driven, and eager to learn.
