Security Officer

Requirements

  • Education: Matric Certificate
  • Certification:
    • Grade C Security Certificate (PSIRA: Grade C)
    • Minimum Information Security Standard (MISS), Minimum Physical Security Standard (MPSS), National Key Point Act knowledge (preferred)

  • Experience: At least one year in the security industry (preferred)

  • License: Valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge: Criminal Procedure Act, Information Security, Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act, and SS Control Room Procedures

  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Basic computer literacy (MS Office)
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Problem-solving ability

Key Responsibilities

  • Access Control and Crowd Management:
    • Enforce Public Access Control Act and manage crowds in the High Court
    • Screen visitors and ensure prohibited items do not enter the premises
    • Escort visitors to designated areas and maintain security registers

  • Security Oversight and Equipment Management:
    • Monitor and assess risk in collaboration with the Chief Security Officer
    • Conduct boom sweeps, monitor security equipment, and maintain exit point security
    • Ensure all security equipment (e.g., x-ray machine, metal detectors) is operational

  • Control Room Operations:
    • Respond to alarms, monitor surveillance footage, and document activities in logs
    • Operate biometric systems and respond to both internal and external calls
    • Maintain and monitor fire systems

  • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS):
    • Conduct fire drills and evacuation procedures
    • Safeguard emergency exits and ensure compliance with OHS regulations
    • Manage first aid boxes and coordinate OHS committee meetings
