Nedbank is committed to creating employment opportunities for young people, strengthening communities, and driving transformation in South Africa. Since 2019, the bank has actively supported the Youth Employment Services (YES) initiative, reinforcing its dedication to job creation and sustainable economic growth.
As the leading contributor among South African banks, Nedbank has played a significant role in the initiative, supporting over 5,000 young people by equipping them with skills to enter the workforce or start their own businesses.
What is the YES Programme?
The YES Programme is a private-sector-driven initiative in partnership with the government to combat youth unemployment. It provides young people with the opportunity to gain essential workplace experience and develop new skills, increasing their prospects of securing long-term employment.
Who is eligible to apply?
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be South African citizens classified as African, Coloured, or Indian under the BBBEE Act’s definition of ‘black people.’
- Be between 18 and 29 years old.
- Have a matric qualification.
- Be currently unemployed.
- Not be enrolled in full-time or part-time studies.
- Have not previously participated in a YES Programme with another organisation.
Programme Duration and Start Date
Successful applicants will be employed for 12 months to gain valuable work experience. The programme is set to commence on 1 June 2025. It is important to note that this is not a learnership, internship, or apprenticeship.
Stipend
Participants will receive a monthly stipend in line with the YES Programme’s guidelines. This financial support is intended to help cover basic living, food, and travel expenses.
