Job Overview
Join South African Airways (SAA) as a First Officer and contribute to the safety and efficiency of our flight operations. In this role, you’ll act as Second-In-Command (P2) or Cruise Relief Pilot (P3), upholding all safety protocols and regulations for secure ground and in-flight operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure flight safety standards are maintained at all times, both on the ground and in-flight.
- Collaborate closely with the Captain and flight crew, performing assigned pilot duties as either P2 or P3.
- Adhere to SAA’s operational protocols and aviation regulations.
Required Documentation
Applicants must submit:
- Matric results transcript
- Aviation training records
- A summary of aircraft types flown and hours logged
- Certified copies of:
- Matric Certificate
- South African ID/Passport
- Academic transcripts
- Last 3 pages of Pilot logbook and logbook summary
- Pilot License and Class 1 Medical Certificate
- Updated CV

Qualifications & Experience
Education: Matric Certificate/Grade 12/N3 or relevant tertiary qualifications (SAQA accredited)
Subjects Required: Mathematics or Statistics 101 and English (minimum D symbol on higher grade or C on standard grade); plus either Physical Science or Computer Science (same grade requirements)
Licensing: Valid South African ATPL or Commercial Pilot License with completed ATPL ground subjects; ATPL must be obtained within 4 years of employment
Medical: Valid Class 1 Medical Certificate
Flight Hours: Minimum of 1,500 hours, including 200 on multi-engine aircraft
Nationality: South African citizen with a valid passport
Knowledge and Skills
- Expertise in aviation safety standards and safe operational practices
- Knowledge of CAA, ICAO, IATA, FAA, and EASA regulations
- Proficiency in business communication and familiarity with international travel customs and practices
