Purpose of the Position
Gariep Motors is seeking a dedicated and motivated Mechanic Apprentice to join our Commercial Workshop team in Kimberley.
As an Apprentice, you will assist in vehicle inspections, perform basic mechanical repairs, order parts, and support experienced Mechanics while learning valuable hands-on skills to advance your career in the motor industry.
To succeed in this role, you should have strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and excellent customer service skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and test vehicles using company checklists.
- Perform standard mechanical repairs (e.g. brake pad replacements).
- Learn and apply repair techniques under the supervision of senior Mechanics.
- Prepare job cards, labor, time, and cost estimates.
- Conduct vehicle tests before and after repairs.
- Attach and test batteries and in-shop devices for functionality.
- Maintain a clean and organized workshop and parts area.
- Assist in engine and component inspections.
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
- N2 Certificate with a diesel technical subject (Motor Trade Theory).
Special Requirements
- Valid driver’s license (old code 10, 11, or 14).
- Technical background or additional trade-related training will be advantageous.
- Fluent in Afrikaans and English.
- Energetic, punctual, and willing to work flexible hours.
- Well-presented, professional, and well-groomed.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and customer service skills.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual work, including lifting heavy machinery.
- Able to follow systems, apply policies, and maintain a structured workflow.
